Method 1: One Click Demo Import (Recommended)

  1. Go to Dashboard → Inkvoice → Import Demo Data.

Watch the Demo Import Tutorial:

Method 2: Manual Import (Alternative)

If the one-click importer does not work on your server or you prefer to import manually:

  1. Navigate to Tools → Import in your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Choose WordPress from the list and install the importer if prompted.
  3. Select the XML demo file provided in the purchased theme package (usually located in /demo-content/).
  4. Assign authors and check the option to download and import file attachments.
  5. Click Import and wait for completion.
Note: If the One Click Demo Import does not work due to server restrictions (remote requests, memory limits, execution timeouts), please adjust your hosting settings or contact your hosting provider. If issues persist, you can always use the manual import method described above.

We recommend creating the following pages before importing demo data:

  • Home
  • Blog
  • About
  • Contact

4. Assign a Static Front Page

  1. Go to Settings → Reading.
  2. Select A static page under “Your homepage displays”.

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Menus.

  3. Assign the menu to the Main Menu location.

6. Install Child Theme (Optional)

If you plan to customize theme files, install and activate the provided Inkvoice Child Theme. This ensures your customizations are preserved during updates.

Tip: Performing these steps before importing demo data ensures that menus, pages, and widgets are automatically assigned correctly.

# Header & Menus

All header settings are located in Dashboard > Inkvoice > Theme Options > Header. Here you can customize your website’s header layout, enable a subscription form, manage social icons, and configure menus.

Header Layout

You can choose from the following layouts:

  • Standard
  • Info Top
  • Image Top
  • Header Top
  • Sidebar Left

Switching between layouts will reveal additional options for customization, allowing you to configure the header exactly as you want.

Header Subscribe

Enable the subscription form to show a subscribe box in your header. Once enabled, new options will appear, including the Subscribe Code field where you can insert your subscribe shortcode. Mailchimp integration is pre-configured. Example HTML:

<p class="email">
  <label for="email">Email address:</label>
  <input type="email" id="email" name="email" placeholder="Your email address" required>
</p>

<p class="submit">
  <input type="submit" value="Subscribe" class="btn btn-primary btn-shadow btn-hover1">
</p>

<p class="agree">
  <label>
    <input type="checkbox" name="AGREE_TO_TERMS" value="1" required> I agree to receive marketing materials
  </label>
</p>

Social Icons

You can enable/disable social icons, reorder them, and insert their URLs. These icons will appear in both the header and footer.

Menus

After creating menus in Dashboard > Appearance > Menus, assign them to the correct Display Location:

  • Main Menu – displays in the main header
  • Footer Menu – displays in the footer

You can fully customize the menu structure, add dropdowns, and control which menu items appear in which location.

Category Megamenu

Creating a Category Megamenu is simple and powerful. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Appearance → Menus and open your main menu.
  2. Add any menu item (or category) you want. For example, rename it to Technology.
  3. Expand the menu item, and in Megamenu Type select Category Megamenu.
  4. Add the categories you want to display in this megamenu. You can select any categories from your site.
  5. Save the menu.

Now, when you hover over Technology in the header:

  • The categories you selected appear as filters inside the megamenu.
  • The latest 4 posts from these categories are displayed immediately.
  • Other posts are loaded via AJAX with caching for fast performance.
  • Users can click the filters to instantly update the posts shown — everything works smoothly.

This allows you to create highly interactive and dynamic menus without any coding. You can replicate this for multiple menu items and categories.

# Elementor & Editors

Inkvoice is built to work seamlessly with Elementor, the most popular drag‑and‑drop page builder for WordPress. This allows you to create custom layouts without writing any code.

Elementor Setup

  1. Make sure Elementor and Inkvoice Core plugins are activated.
  2. Navigate to Elementor → Settings in your WordPress dashboard.
  3. Enable Elementor for Posts and Pages (recommended) so you can design both types of content.
  4. Save changes.

Working with Elementor

To edit a page with Elementor:

  1. Go to Pages (or Posts) in the WordPress dashboard.
  2. Hover over the page you want to edit and click Edit with Elementor.
  3. Use the left panel to drag widgets (Inkvoice widgets included) into the page canvas.
  4. Click Update to save your changes.

Inkvoice Widgets

Inkvoice includes a collection of custom widgets specifically designed for magazine and blog layouts. These widgets extend Elementor’s functionality and let you build unique page sections like:

  • Post grids & carousels
  • Featured posts blocks
  • Category-based listings
  • Author boxes & post meta elements
  • Stylish buttons and CTAs

Other Editors

The theme is compatible with the native WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) as well. You can freely use it for posts and pages if you prefer a lightweight editing experience.

Tip: For the best experience, always keep Elementor and Inkvoice Core plugins updated to the latest versions.

Creating Full‑Width Pages

If you want to create a regular page (with a page title), simply create a page normally and edit it with Elementor.

For completely custom layouts without a page title (like the Homepage):

  1. Create a new page.
  2. In the Page Settings (usually in the right sidebar), set Page Width to Full Width.
  3. Disable the Page Title option.
  4. Click Publish and then click Edit with Elementor to design your page from scratch.
Tip: This setup is perfect for creating landing pages or a homepage with a clean, distraction‑free design.

# Blog & Post Layouts

Creating the Blog Page

To display your posts in a dedicated blog page, simply create a new page from Dashboard > Pages > Add New, and select the Blog Page template.

Available Page Options:

  • Page Style: Contained, Full Width, or Sidebar
  • Page Sidebar: Choose any available sidebar if Sidebar style is selected
  • Page Title: Enable or disable the title for this page
  • Blog Page Style: Select between Classic or Masonry layouts
💡 Tip: The Blog Page created this way will automatically pull your posts using the selected layout and styling. No need to add posts manually to the page content.

Post Formats Support

Inkvoice fully supports all WordPress Post Formats and provides enhanced styling for the following:

  • Standard & Image: Use Featured Image to display your post thumbnail
  • Gallery: Dedicated field to add multiple images
  • Video: Add video embed codes (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)

  • Quote: Highlighted quote style with author field
  • Link: Adds a primary external link for the post
✨ Each post format has its own unique, modern design to ensure your content looks great.

Post Layout Options

Each single post can have its own layout, independent from the global theme settings. You can find these settings in the post editor under Post Layout.

Available Layouts:

  • Global: Inherits layout from Inkvoice > Theme Options
  • Sticky Left: Fixed content area aligned left (disables sidebars)
  • Sticky Right: Fixed content area aligned right (disables sidebars)
  • Full Banner: Full-width featured banner design
  • Boxed: Boxed container layout
  • Classic: Traditional single-post layout

Sidebar Options:

  • Left Sidebar: Global, Disable, Table of Contents, or any registered sidebar
  • Right Sidebar: Global, Disable, Table of Contents, or any registered sidebar
⚠️ Important: If Sticky Left or Sticky Right layouts are selected, sidebars will not be displayed regardless of sidebar settings.
📝 Note: Some layout settings may not apply to certain post formats due to their specific design (e.g. Quote, Link).

# Widgets & Widget Areas

Available Sidebars

Inkvoice theme comes with two sidebar widget areas ready to use. You can manage them in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets or via the block editor in WordPress 6+.

  • Main Sidebar: Default sidebar area used in blog pages and single posts (if sidebar is enabled)
  • Secondary Sidebar: Additional sidebar that can be used for custom pages or layouts
💡 You can choose which sidebar to display for each page or post in the Page Sidebar or Post Sidebar settings.

Custom Inkvoice Widgets

Inkvoice includes 4 custom widgets with unique styling to enhance your sidebar or footer.

Available Widgets:

  • Inkvoice Author: Displays author information beautifully. Data is pulled from Users > User > Edit Profile, including the extra profile fields provided by the theme.
  • Inkvoice Categories: Lists your categories in a modern, clean design.
  • Inkvoice Social: Shows your social media icons and links based on profile URLs.
  • Inkvoice Top Articles: Displays your most popular or top-rated articles.
✨ Extra Profile Fields: For the best experience with the Inkvoice Author widget, go to Users > User > Edit Profile and fill in:
  • Custom Profile Image (alternative to Gravatar)
  • Social Platform URLs (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
These fields were added by Inkvoice to make your author box look professional and complete.

# Shortcodes & Blocks

Inkvoice theme does not include custom shortcodes or proprietary Gutenberg blocks. However, we have carefully styled all default Gutenberg blocks to match the look and feel of the theme.

Supported Gutenberg Blocks:

  • Headings, Paragraphs, Lists
  • Images, Galleries, Cover blocks
  • Buttons, Quotes, Pullquotes
  • Columns, Groups, Separators
  • Embeds (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, etc.)
  • And all other default WordPress blocks
💡 Tip: For more advanced layouts, we recommend using Elementor which is fully integrated with Inkvoice and gives you drag-and-drop flexibility for building complex pages without coding.

# Translation

Translation Support

Inkvoice theme is fully translatable and works with popular translation plugins such as Loco Translate (free) or WPML (premium).

Where to Find Translatable Strings:

Since Inkvoice comes with its own core plugin and includes Postpuzzle, some phrases may be located in different text domains. If you cannot find a specific phrase, please check these three places:

  • Inkvoice Theme – For front-end UI strings, buttons, page titles
  • Inkvoice Core Plugin – For custom post types, meta fields, customizer options
  • Postpuzzle Plugin – For post grids, layouts, and preset names
💡 Tip: This is a common practice for modern WordPress themes. If a string is not found in one text domain, simply check the other two before contacting support.

# Developer Guide

Child Theme Support

Inkvoice comes with a ready-to-use child theme included in the purchased files. Using a child theme is strongly recommended if you plan to customize theme code (PHP, CSS, or templates).

Installing the Child Theme:

  1. Locate the inkvoice-child.zip file inside your purchased package.
  2. Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes > Add New.
  3. Upload and activate Inkvoice Child.
  4. Your customizations can now be safely added to functions.php or style.css inside the child theme.
💡 Tip: When the parent theme is updated, your customizations in the child theme remain intact.

Recommended Customization Workflow

  • Add custom CSS to style.css inside the child theme.
  • Use functions.php in the child theme to enqueue additional scripts or override theme functions.
  • If needed, copy template files from the parent theme into the child theme and modify them safely.
  • Avoid direct edits to parent theme files to prevent losing changes after updates.

Developer Notes

  • Minimum Requirements: PHP 7.4+, WordPress 6.0+
  • File Structure:
    • /assets – Styles, scripts, and images
    • /templates – Theme templates
    • /inc – Core functions, hooks, and customizer settings
  • Best Practice: Use WordPress hooks (actions & filters) when available, instead of editing core files.
🧑‍💻 For Advanced Developers: Inkvoice was built with clean, modular code. You can hook into WordPress actions and filters, enqueue additional assets, or register custom post types/taxonomies without conflicts.

# Custom CSS

Inkvoice provides a quick and safe way to add your own custom CSS without editing theme files. You can easily insert any additional CSS rules in:

  • Dashboard > Inkvoice > Theme Options > Custom CSS – Recommended way
  • Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS – WordPress native way
  • Child Theme > style.css – For developers who want to keep styles under version control
💡 Tip: Using the Theme Options > Custom CSS panel is the easiest method — your styles will remain after theme updates.

# Performance & Security

Theme Performance

Inkvoice was built with speed and efficiency in mind. We use clean, optimized code and follow WordPress coding standards to ensure a fast experience for your visitors.

Performance Features:

  • Lightweight and modular code structure
  • Optimized images and assets out of the box
  • Lazy-loading support for media (WordPress native)
  • Minimal HTTP requests, no unnecessary scripts
  • Full compatibility with popular cache & optimization plugins (e.g. WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache)
⚡ Tip: For maximum performance, we recommend using a caching plugin and a CDN.

Security Best Practices

Inkvoice follows WordPress security best practices. No unsafe code or deprecated functions are used. However, site security also depends on your hosting and configuration.

Recommended Security Steps:

  • Keep WordPress, theme, and plugins up-to-date
  • Use strong passwords and a security plugin (e.g. Wordfence, iThemes Security)
  • Regularly back up your site (use a plugin or server-level backups)
  • Ensure correct file permissions on your server
  • Disable unused plugins and themes
🔒 Note: The theme does not collect any user data or send requests to third-party servers, ensuring GDPR-friendly behavior.

# Updates

Keeping your theme up to date is important for security, performance, and new features. Inkvoice supports automatic updates when the official Envato Market plugin is installed and configured.

Automatic Updates (Recommended)

If you have installed and connected the Envato Market plugin, updates will appear in your WordPress Dashboard like any other theme update. You can update with a single click.

Manual Update

If you prefer to update manually or do not have the Envato plugin configured, follow these steps:

  1. Download the latest files from ThemeForest Downloads
  2. Unzip the package and locate the inkvoice.zip file
  3. Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and install the new inkvoice.zip file
  4. Before updating, export your Theme Options: Inkvoice > Theme Options > Import/Export > Export
  5. Delete the Inkvoice Core plugin from Dashboard > Plugins
  6. Install and activate the newly required plugins (Inkvoice Core, Postpuzzle, etc.)
💡 Tip: Your content and theme options will remain safe during the update if you exported them beforehand.

# Troubleshooting

If you face any issues with Inkvoice, follow these recommended steps before opening a support ticket.

1. Check System Requirements

Ensure that your server meets the minimum requirements listed in the System Requirements section. Most issues with demo import, theme installation, or saving Theme Options come from low PHP limits.

2. Verify Required Plugins

Make sure all required plugins are installed and active:

  • Inkvoice Core (required)
  • Postpuzzle (required)
  • Elementor (required)
  • Redux Framework (required)
  • Contact Form 7 (optional, only if you need Contact Page)

3. Clear Cache

If you use a caching plugin or CDN, clear the cache after making changes. Some visual issues may simply be cached versions of your site.

4. Switch to Default Plugins & Theme

To rule out conflicts, temporarily disable other third-party plugins and check if the issue persists. You can also test with a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-Four to confirm if the issue is related to Inkvoice.

5. Enable Debug Mode

Enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php file to check for errors. This can help you or our support team identify the root cause faster.

6. Reinstall Theme or Plugins

If you suspect a corrupted file, re-download Inkvoice from ThemeForest and reinstall. Do the same with Inkvoice Core and Postpuzzle plugins.

💡 Tip: If nothing helps, you can contact our support team. Provide as much detail as possible: screenshots, browser console logs, and WordPress dashboard temporary admin access (if needed).

# Backups

Regular backups are essential to protect your site from data loss due to updates, server issues, or accidental changes.

Recommended Backup Methods

  • Plugin-based backups: Use popular plugins such as UpdraftPlus, BackWPup, or All-in-One WP Migration.
  • Hosting provider backups: Many hosts provide daily or on-demand backups. Make sure to enable and test them.
  • Manual backups: Export the WordPress database via phpMyAdmin and download the wp-content folder manually.
💡 Tip: Before performing major updates (theme, plugins, or WordPress core), always make a full backup.
